Histograms
Histograms are used to display the distribution of a variable in time. It is important to note that histograms in the Continuous Troubleshooter do not display the distribution of samples in the data set, but rather the amount of time (in seconds) a particular variable spent at a particular value range (called a bin).
View a single Histogram
From the Visualization view (accessed from the project bar in the Troubleshooter):
-
Click on the Histogram icon next to the field name on the list of fields.
View multiple Histograms
NOTE: For multiple histograms, each histogram is displayed in its own view.
-
Click on the Histogram button on the main toolbar.
-
The field selection dialog is displayed.
-
Select the required fields using the add (>), remove (<), add all (>>) and remove all (<<) buttons.
-
Click OK
-
A Histogram is displayed for each selection made.
Histogram options
-
Min: Set the minimum by entering the numerical value of the minimum in the Min field. If the entered minimum is greater than the default minimum, then the outer-most bin will change to an alternate color. The height of that bin is equal to the amount of time spent below the minimum. The mathematical notation for the outer bin is: (-∞, Min].
-
Max: Set the maximum by entering the value of the maximum in the Max field. If the entered maximum is less than the default maximum, then the outer-most bin will change an alternate color. The height of that bin is equal to the amount of time spent above the maximum. The mathematical notation for the outer bin is: [Max, ∞).
-
Bins: Set the amount of bins by entering the number in the Bin field (the minimum is 1 and the maximum is 200)
-
Zoom in: left click and drag the area to zoom into from the top-left-hand corner to the bottom-right-hand corner.
-
Zoom out: left click and drag from the bottom-right-hand corner to the top-left-hand corner to zoom out.
-
Pan: Right-click and drag on the graph to move to the appropriate location.
Important to note: All data outside the minimum and maximum limits will be marked as bad quality. See limits for more information on this topic.
